Vassalboro Public Works Department General Information

The road crew maintains a total of 49.1 miles of town roads, of which 44.8 miles is paved and 4.3 are gravel roads. Examples of some of the maintenance performed by the Town Road crew are cutting brush, ditching, replacing culverts, grading, patching, roadside mowing, and sign replacement, to name a few.

  • The Vassalboro Public Works Department consists of a road crew of four, and a solid waste facility of two workers.
  • The hours for the road crew are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the summer from May 1st to November 1st; and Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the winter.
  • The Town Garage and Sand/salt shed are located on the Bog Road in East Vassalboro.

Residents who desire to hire the services of a hauler to pick up and deliver trash to the transfer station rather than making deliveries themselves can call:

Please Note:

  • Put all of your zero-sort recyclables (EXCEPT CARDBOARD) in with your regular household garbage. The Town’s trash disposal vendor called Coastal Resources of Maine, powered by Fiberight Technology and located in Hampden, will sort all of the trash that the Town sends to them, and they will recycle all that they can from your waste. Let Fiberight do the work for you!
  • Now for the CARDBOARD…Because there is a mandatory cardboard recycling Town ordinance in effect, residents need to continue to separate the cardboard.

The Solid Waste Transfer Station is located on the Lombard Dam Road for use by Vassalboro Residents, and for disposal of trash generated within Town.

  • Town Ordinance requires each resident to obtain a vehicle decal to affix to their vehicle to identify you as a Vassalboro Resident.
  • These decals are available at the Transfer Station by showing proof of residency.

Construction & Demolition Debris

Disposal of a yard or more or large loads of debris from a past or new renovation or demolition project require a Demolition Permit available at the transfer station.

  • Non- treated wood (painted ok) – $2.00 Min. — $7.00 yd. – $15.00 truck or small single axle trailer

  • Windows or other items with glass are accepted. Fees may apply for debris around the glass

Fees vary at attendant’s discretion on larger loads depending on materials and amounts

Other items with NO FEES

  • Computer mouse, keyboards, printers, copiers, cell phones, game consoles, stereos, other misc. electronics.
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (any size) including Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s)
  • Batteries (Automotive, lawn & tractor, Lithium, NiCad, small sealed lead acid, Etc.*Alkaline batteries are non-hazardous and can be safely disposed of into your normal household trash.)
  • Compost (leaves, grass clippings, garden waste) Waste oils & waste antifreeze ( no gasoline ) other chemicals must be disposed of properly.* see attendant Brush (tree branches, limbs etc.) logs no longer than 4 ft. up to 16” diameter and small stumps
  • Clean wood stove ashes (no other burnt debris)
