Town of Vassalboro Select Board

The Town of Vassalboro is governed by a Select Board who meet every other Thursday night at 6:30pm in the town office meeting room. Board meetings during the summer months are usually scheduled once a month.

The public is invited to attend.

Vassalboro Public Works Department General Information

The road crew maintains a total of 49.1 miles of town roads, of which 44.8 miles is paved and 4.3 are gravel roads. Examples of some of the maintenance performed by the Town Road crew are cutting brush, ditching, replacing culverts, grading, patching, roadside mowing, and sign replacement, to name a few.

  • The Vassalboro Public Works Department consists of a road crew of four, and a solid waste facility of two workers.
  • The hours for the road crew are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the summer from May 1st to November 1st; and Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the winter.
  • The Town Garage and Sand/salt shed are located on the Bog Road in East Vassalboro.

Transfer Station

Residents who desire to hire the services of a hauler to pick up and deliver trash to the transfer station rather than making deliveries themselves can call:

This facility accepts waste from Vassalboro residents ONLY. Waste generated outside of Vassalboro is not permitted. A current transfer station sticker must be displayed. There is currently no charge for regular household trash (no building materials)

Please do not put anything listed below; building materials, tarps, hoses, chemicals, paints, or anything that’s not regular household trash in the compactor.

Items with Disposal Fees

  1. Carpets, rugs, & pads - $5.00 and up

  2. Box springs - $5.00. Mattresses - $7.00 reg, $10.00 Queen, $15.00 King

  3. Couches - $15.00 regular size. Fold out bed - $20

  4. Upholstered Chairs - $7.00 regular, recliner $10.00

  5. Tires - regular size car or truck tire (with or without rim) $3.00 and up.

  6. Fire extinguishers - (dry chemical only) - $5.00ea

  7. Propane tanks (20lb only, 1# tanks are not accepted) - $5.00ea

  8. Refrigerators, a/c’s, freezers, dehumidifiers - $10.00ea

  9. Television & monitors (CRT’s) -$15.00ea. Flat screens - $5.00ea

  10. PCB ballasts – Sm. $2.00ea, Lg. $4.00ea

Construction & Demolition Debris

Contractors must have verification in writing from the home owner where in Vassalboro the debris was generated. Attendants have the right to refuse any load without this information.

Shingles or rolled roofing - $10.00 per sq

Construction demo debris (drywall, etc.) - $5.00min. $15.00yd. $20.00 - $30.00 per truck. Trailer load prices VARY

*Fees are at the attendant’s discretion on larger loads depending on materials and amounts. Asbestos or any material that cannot be identified by attendant will not be accepted.

Items with No Disposal Fee

Computer keyboards, printers, copiers, cell phones, tablets, game consoles, misc. electronics.

Florescent light bulbs (ONLY 10 PER VISIT) Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s)

UNDAMAGED Batteries (automotive, lawn tractor, Lithium, NiCad, small sealed led acid) - *Alkaline batteries are non-hazardous and can be safely disposed of in your regular household trash. Damaged batteries are not accepted.

Compost (leaves, grass clippings, garden waste) Brush & Logs no longer than 4ft up to 16”, small stumps.

Used Oil & Antifreeze, clean w/no debris, 5 gallon or smaller containers. (No gas or other chemicals)

Current transfer station vehicle sticker is required and must be displayed. All prices are subject to change.

Swap Shed

Vassalboro Residents Only (Must have current transfer station sticker)

Please stop and see an attendant before dropping ANY ITEM off as there may be a fee associated with some items.

For health and safety regulations, the following items will not be accepted:

No broken or dirty items

No car seats

No electronics (TV’s computers etc.)

No mattresses, box springs or upholstered chairs etc.

No worn, broken, or stained furniture

No chemicals of any kind (cleaners, paints etc.)

No food of any kind

No sharp objects such as broken glass, knives, saws, etc.

No clothing or bedding

Put clothing into white apparel impact boxes

No ACs or refrigerators

NO LARGE LOADS

Only one visit per day

The Town of Vassalboro will not be liable for any accidents or incidents that may occur from items taken from the shed.

Any persons abusing or ignoring anything above will be subject to loss of use of the Swap Shed.
