Shape Your Town’s Future: Vassalboro Residents Urged to Exercise Civic Duty at Annual Town Meeting Starting June 1st

VASSALBORO, MAINE — May 19, 2026 — Local governance is the purest form of democracy, and it relies entirely on the voices of its people. The Town of Vassalboro officially invites and warns all qualified voters to attend the upcoming Annual Town Meeting, commencing on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Vassalboro Community School.

The town meeting framework gives every single resident a direct hand in managing municipal affairs and determining local tax rates. Municipal officials stress that exercising your right to vote is not just a privilege, but a vital civic duty required to keep Vassalboro thriving.

The business of the town will be decided across a multi-day timeline:

  • Open Floor Meeting (Articles 1–49): Monday, June 1, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vassalboro Community School. Voters will elect a moderator and debate major budgetary, capital, and regulatory proposals.
  • Secret Ballot Voting (Articles 50–51): Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Vassalboro Town Office. This final vote secures the school budget validation and elects necessary municipal leaders.

Why Your Vote Matters This Year

Every article on this year’s warrant directly impacts your wallet and daily life in Vassalboro. Key issues on the floor include:

  • The School and Town Budgets: Residents will vote on raising and allocating more than $10.9 million for local education alongside crucial municipal service budgets for road administration, paving, public works, first responders, and fire safety.
  • Critical Local Standards: Voters will decide on a comprehensive amendment to the Vassalboro Floodplain Management Ordinance, which institutes vital new building elevation rules and utility safeguards to protect local property values.
  • Capital Investments: On-the-floor items include determining the funding for essential emergency infrastructure repairs, such as the Dunlap Bridge on Mill Hill Road, and updating town utility vehicles.

“Local government has a larger day-to-day impact on our families than state or federal policies,” said Town Manager Aaron Miller. “When you participate in the Town Meeting, you are choosing how your tax dollars are invested and what our town values look like. We need your perspective on the floor.”

Attested copies of the town warrant will have been posted at the North Vassalboro Post Office, Vassalboro Library, Vassalboro Town Office, and Getchell’s Corner Post Office by Friday, May 22.

Residents can pick up a physical copy of the full warrant at the Town Office or view it online to review all articles prior to June 1st.

Don’t let others decide the future of your town for you. Arrive early, bring your neighbors, and make your voice count.
