TOWN OF VASSALBORO, MAINE PUBLIC NOTICE: CITIZEN VACANCIES PUBLIC SAFETY & TRANSPORT COMMITTEE

September 14, 2026

The Town of Vassalboro is actively seeking civic-minded residents to serve on the newly established Public Safety & Transport Committee. This committee is being formed by the Select Board to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the town’s emergency medical services (EMS), local fire protection, and regional emergency dispatch workflows.

Purpose & Mission

Vassalboro is facing critical long-term structural choices regarding public safety, regional cooperation, and volunteer workforce sustainability. The committee’s core focus is to identify modern operational gaps, assess volunteer burnout, evaluate municipal financial records, and analyze emergency response time data.

Over a 9-to-12-month operational timeline, the committee will formulate objective, data-driven recommendations. These findings will map out a 5-year outlook for immediate system stabilization and a 10-year roadmap for fiscal and operational sustainability to guide future Select Boards.

Committee Composition & Openings

The committee is designed to blend local public safety leadership with direct community oversight. The town is looking to fill vacancies for the following positions:

  • Public Member(s): Residents who will directly provide a vital community and taxpayer perspective to the analysis.
  • Subject Matter Experts (Optional/Advisory): Individuals living in the area with specific professional backgrounds in municipal finance, labor/staffing consultation, or grant and funding specialists.

Commitment & Expectations

  • Duration: The committee will formally convene at the end of September 2026 and conclude its final report presentation in December 2027.
  • Activities: Members will attend regular public working meetings, assist in reviewing financial logs, distribute community-wide safety surveys, and host local public listening sessions.
