Vassalboro to Vote on Using Surplus Funds for Town Audits
When Vassalboro residents head to the polls on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, they’ll see three local questions on the ballot — right alongside two statewide citizen initiatives.
One of those local questions asks voters to decide whether the Town should use up to $19,220 from surplus funds to cover the costs of completing fiscal year 2024 and 2025 audits.
The need for the additional funding comes after a period of turnover in the Town’s bookkeeping department, before the current bookkeeper took the helm. To get the books fully up to date, the Selectboard hired RHR Smith to assist with bank reconciliations and help prepare for the audits.
Although the Town came in $35,000 over budget for audit expenses last fiscal year, it’s estimated that an additional $19,220 will be required to bring everything current. The Budget Committee has unanimously supported this proposal.
Voters can weigh in on this and other local questions at the Vassalboro Community School on Election Day, November 4, with polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
