Town of Vassalboro Seeks Community Volunteers for New Public Safety & Transport Committee

September 3, 2026

VASSALBORO, MAINE — The Town of Vassalboro is officially seeking civic-minded residents to serve on its newly established Public Safety & Transport Committee. On August 26, 2026, the Vassalboro Selectboard voted unanimously to move forward with the committee’s formation to proactively address the town’s long-term emergency and infrastructure needs.

The committee is established to comprehensively evaluate Vassalboro’s current emergency medical services (EMS), fire protection, and dispatch systems. Appointed members will work alongside local public safety leaders—including First Responder Chief Dan Mayotte and Fire Chief Walker Thompson—to identify operational gaps, evaluate workforce sustainability, and review capital planning for fire apparatus and facilities.

The ultimate goal of the committee is to deliver data-driven recommendations providing a 5-year outlook for short-term stabilization and a 10-year outlook for long-term fiscal sustainability so that future funding proposals do not shock taxpayers.

The Selectboard is seeking a diverse, balanced group of community members to provide vital public perspectives. Ideal candidates include residents with backgrounds or interests in municipal finance, labor or staffing coordination, grant writing, or public safety operations.

Committee Details & Commitment:

  • Timeline: Members should anticipate a 9-to-12-month commitment.
  • Meeting Frequency: The committee will meet once a month or as needed. All meetings will be held at the Town Office and recorded for public transparency.
  • Start Date: The committee is scheduled to begin its work at the end of August, with the exact date and time to be determined.

Residents interested in volunteering to help shape the future of Vassalboro’s public safety network are encouraged to submit an application or letter of interest to the Town Office.

For more information on how to apply, please contact the Vassalboro Town Office at (207) 872-2826 or visit the town website.
