Minutes of the Meeting
October 24, 2007
Don Breton called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. In attendance were the following: Libby Mitchell, Eric Rowe, Benji Rowe, George Gould, Bruce Flaherty, Terrence McCabe-Spirit of America President, Mary Grow.
The first order of business was the presentation of the annual Spirit of America Award. Libby Mitchell presented the award to the Vassalboro Fire Department. The award recognizes a community’s “unsung heroes” who serves as volunteers. Libby also indicated that in past years the Vassalboro Food Station and volunteers at the transfer station for volunteering their time. Bruce Flaherty took several pictures of the four department members that were present; Eric Rowe, fire chief; Benji Rowe, Donald Breton and Mike Vashon.
The October 10th minutes were reviewed and approved, Libby/Don 2-0
The Warrant was reviewed and approved, Libby/Don 2-0.
The Road Report was reviewed and approved, Libby/Don 2-0.
The Status Report was reviewed and the town manager indicated the Oakland recycling facility is 80 to 85% complete, and a letter will be sent to Ken-A-Set giving them a 30 day notice. The D.O.C. is replacing the planks at the boat launch and reconstruction on the road is in progress. The town manager indicated the picnic are on route 3 would be closed for the season at the end of October. Town manager is in the process of locating railings for China Lake outlet dam and will contact Roland Tilton regarding the removal of some of the fish screens. A final copy of the Procurement policy was distributed and a motion was made by Libby to accept, seconded by Don, vote 2-0.

New Business: The town manger indicated he had received an e-mail from Kelly Amoroso, EMA regarding sand bags to be used for emergency purposes. 1,000 bags for $240.00, Libby asked why there was a need, and the town manager indicated that they would be available for emergency purposes. George Gould indicated that grain bags would serve the same purpose. The town manager indicated he would try to obtain grain bags at no cost.
The selectmen intend to hold only one meeting in November. The date of November 14th was selected as the town manger would be on vacation the week of November 5 and the other scheduled date of November 21st is Thanksgiving eve. The next scheduled meeting after November 14 is December 5th.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the selectmen’s meeting at 7:58 p.m. Libby/Don, 2-0.
