Vassalboro Select Board
Minutes of the Special Selectmen’s Meeting
April 29, 2014

Members Present: Lauchlin Titus and Phil Haines

Members Absent: Rob Browne

Others Present: Mary Sabins

1. Call to order – The meeting was called to order by Chairman Titus at 3:35 p.m.

2. This Special Selectmen’s meeting was called after duly notifying the press to discuss the ongoing complaints being received by the Selectmen concerning excessive target practicing using explosive targets on Cemetery Street. After brief discussion about the situation, and on a motion made by P. Haines, seconded by L. Titus, the Board voted unanimously to instruct the Town Manager to prepare an ordinance to include in the June Town Meeting Warrant to regulate the use of explosive targets and target practicing. In anticipation of this vote the Town Manager had prepared a rough draft of such an ordinance incorporating material provided by some of the residents on Cemetery Street who are requesting the proposal of the ordinance. The Board reviewed the draft and made suggestions for changes. A final draft of the Ordinance will be reviewed at the May 8th Selectmen’s meeting prior to the scheduled signing of the Town Meeting Warrant. A public hearing will be held on May 22nd. The Board also decided by consensus to present the article to adopt the proposed Ordinance at the town meeting where more discussion could be held, as opposed to a secret ballot vote at the polls.

3. Adjourn – There being no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
