Vassalboro Conservation Commission Meeting

- Meeting Minutes
- Members voted to approve minutes from May meeting
- Trail Committee Update
- Holly provided history and update on preparations that have been ongoing to re-activate the Trail Committee. Their first meeting is scheduled for first week in August
- Town Forest Volunteer event update
- On May 18th members from the local church group (POC Samantha Lessard) generously completed 2+ hours of volunteer work at the Vassalboro Town Forest. Holly attended and provided updated. They were able to clear brush, removed old bog bridging that had been replaced and lay down bark mulch that was donated from the town to improve the walkability of the trail.
- Forest Management Plan
- Discussions were continued as to what we should pursue as far as updating the Forest Management plan and what options to consider (harvesting wood, creating an “Open Space Plan”) and what the goal should be. The last cut was approx. 25 years ago. Vite Vitale authored the last plan and will be contacted to discuss poss future plan.
- Outreach
- There was a Conservation Commission at the Senior Fair held on May 22nd. Fliers, trail maps and info was provided to those in attendance.
