Meeting Vassalboro Conservation Commission
Minutes of July 30, 2015

After nearly 8 years, Mary Ellen Johnston has stepped down from the position of Chair. The members voted to appoint Betsy Poulin as the new Chair. Congrats and Thank You Betsy!
Discussion of the Alewives info sessions, both May and June were excellent.
We had the clean up day in June and got work done with just a few people. Holly would like to get a brush hog next time, perhaps the town's or Steve Jones smaller one. We discussed ways to promote the town trails , and get signage that will be more attractive and permanent. We welcome more Eagle Scouts to do work on our town properties, and the land trust conserved lands. Another clean up day is scheduled for Sept. 26th.

Betsy Poulin has set up a facebook page for the VCC! We will work on getting the word out and sharing information about our work and the town trails and other projects.
We are considering the option of contacting the U of Maine Orono Forestry program to see if a student would like to work with us to review and up-date our town forest management plan. Other options include applying again to Project Canopy for a grant, or waiting until we need to cut the trees again.
