VCC meeting. Feb. 9, 2010
Minutes
Vassalboro Conservation Commission
7:00 pm, Present: Paul Mitnik, Mary Ellen Johnston, David Jenney, Steve Jones, Holly Weidner, and guest, Josh Platt, Kennebec County Soil and Water District.
Josh joined us to discuss the status of the boat launch site at Seven Mile Stream.
While the $20,000 grant is secure, there will need to be more work done, including handicapped-access , which Josh will help us design. He needs a letter from us requesting to go forward with the project. Dave and Paul will meet with Mary Sabins to talk about the town warrant. Josh informed us that the KRI funding is about gone, and he is applying to the National Park Service to see if the Kennebec River Corridor could qualify for a federal grant. He suggested that we might save money by getting on the schedule for the Maine Conservation Corp , who could help with the site work once it is approved.
2. Holly reported on the Farmer's Market meeting. A potential new market member is the Crown Of Maine coop, currently occupying the old bean factory in town.
3. Steve and Mary Ellen will be on the look out for the RFP announcement for Project Canopy this year. They will announce sometime in June.
4. Paul announced that a public hearing is scheduled for March 2, about adopting the "Resource Protection " maps for the state owned lands along Spectacle Pond and China Lake.
The next VCC meeting will be held on March 9, at 7PM.
All are welcomed.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Ellen Johnston, Chair
