Town Cemetery Committee
August 7, 2017

Present: Russell Smith, Sue Haines, David Jenney, Jody Kundreskas and chair Jane Aiudi.

Met at 3:30 at the town office.

We approved the minutes from the last meeting.

Rick Lees had called Jane to say that the scouts would remove the fence from the East cemetery that afternoon (August 2nd or so). We presume it has been done.

Jody reported on her work. She is not only cleaning but fixing stones in the cemetery and is coming along nicely.

There has been no word from Tom on the status of signs.

Discussion of bids – we had 3, all less expensive that we had budgeted. One $3660 and the other two around $6000. One clearly had little experience with mapping cemeteries, though he showed extensive experience with assessing land parcels. One, the lowest, appeared to have disregarded our marker specifications. So, we are suggesting that Jane or Mary call references for the remaining person, who had cemetery experience and offered a choice of markers, and, pending that outcome, offering the work to him.

Russell (the historical society) now has both halves of the one stone from the otherwise unmarked Crowell Hill Cemetery.

Jody mentioned seeing someone dousing for grave locations. We briefly speculated on using this instead of ground sensing radar to locate graves, which would make our mapping project much cheaper. We decided that this might be a bit unproven to use for our purposes.
