Minutes of the Meeting
June 24, 2010

 

Members Present: Rob Browne and Lauchlin Titus
Members Absent: Phil Haines
Others Present: Mary Sabins, Joe Suga, Jean Poulin, Don Breton, Bill Whitley, George Gould, Doug Phillips, Bill Browne, Mary Grow, Lori Fowle, Eric Rowe (7:25), and Mike Vashon (7:25).

  1. Call to order – The meeting was called to order by Chairman Titus at 7:02 p.m.

  2. New Business -

    a.Tax Sale – Four bids were received for the tax sale of the land formerly owned by Richard and Joyce Chenette identified on town Tax Map 6, Lot 2 and recently acquired by the town through the tax lien foreclosure process. Chairman Titus opened the bids and read them aloud as follows: $14,000 from Jim White of Vassalboro; $16,700 from Eric Paetow of Coopers Mills; $17,777.77 from Terry Berry of Hallowell; and $20,100 from Lance Cloutier of Vassalboro. On a motion made by R. Browne, seconded by L. Titus, the Board voted unanimously to accept Lance Cloutier’s bid of $20,100. The successful bidder will have 14 days to complete the sale as per the bid documents.

    b.Transfer Funds – Sabins explained that the Administration budget is overdraft by $7,021.64 as of 6/24/10 due largely in part to the high level of legal expenses. After discussion and on a motion made by Bill Brown, seconded by Bill Whitley, the Budget Committee voted unanimously to approve a transfer of funds from the Solid Waste Disposal Fee line item (E1-03-10) to the Administration Unclassified Account (E1-01-30) in the amount of $10,000.00 to cover the overdraft.

    c. Carry forward amounts – On a motion made by R. Browne, seconded by L. Titus, the Selectmen unanimously approved the list of carry forward requests.

    d. Disposal of fire truck – Chief Rowe stated he wants to give the town’s old 1978 fire truck to some other fire department that could benefit from the truck. Chairman Titus stated that he felt the fire department members could make the decision who should receive the truck. Chief Rowe stated that two departments in Maine (Southwest Harbor and Bowerbank) have already submitted written requests for the truck, but Chief stated he would like to open a competitive process so other departments could also make their needs known. An ad for the process could be posted on the town’s website, as well as the Maine Municipal Association’s website. After discussion and on a motion made by R. Browne, seconded by L. Titus, the Board voted unanimously to authorize the Board of Directors of the Fire Department to dispose of the 1978 fire truck in a manner they deem responsible.

  3. Treasurer’s Warrants – On a motion made by R. Browne, seconded by L. Titus, the Board voted unanimously to approve warrant #80.

  4. Other – none.

  5. Adjourn – There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
