Board of Selectmen
Minutes of the Meeting
January 2, 2008
Don Breton called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. In attendance were the following: Libby Mitchell, Rob Browne, Lauchlin Titus, Mary Grow and Mike Vashon.
The December 19th minutes were reviewed and approved, Libby/Rob 3-0.
The Warrant was reviewed and approved, Libby/Rob 3-0.
The Road Report was reviewed and approved, Libby/Rob 3-0.
The Status Report was reviewed and the town manager indicated no changes for this meeting.
The Financial Report was reviewed; the town manager indicated this is no concern at this time, although revenues are slowing down compared to last year. We have had some unanticipated revenues (supplemental taxes) that have made up some of the minor shortfalls at this time and we will continue to monitor closely on a biweekly basis. Motion to approved, Libby/Rob, 3-0.
Old Business: Don Breton inquired about the large pile of snow at the corner of Oak Grove Road and Main Street and the parking restrictions in that area. It appears someone is plowing in front of the old historical building and pushing the snow east towards Main Street, creating a hazard. Town manager will ask Dick Phippen to look into the situation. Don also mentioned that men in orange are cleaning hydrants in Winslow. Should the town look into this?
New Business: Libby reported that the Education committee will hear presentations on about 60 bills related to the school consolidation law. Libby also indicated the legislatures are very aware of the constituents concerns about the current law, especially cost sharing and governance in the proposed regional school units. Libby indicted that signatures for the state wide petition to repeal the law are due in late January.
Town manager asked if we could go into executive session to discuss his contract, since it expired in October, 2007. Motion was made at 8:00 pm by Libby "I move that the board enter executive session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to 1 MRSA, Section 405, subsection 6(A)."
A motion was made to close executive session at 8:28. No action was taken on the executive session.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the selectmen’s meeting at 8:28 p.m. Libby/Rob 3-0.
